A traumatic dental injury or dental trauma is injury to the mouth, which can include injury to the teeth, lips, gums, tongue, and even jaw bones.  Most traumatic dental injuries occur in children, but they can occur to anyone at any age.  A traumatic dental injury should be addressed immediately, especially if a tooth has been dislodged or even knocked out (avulsed).  At Front Range Endodontics, we are here to help you if you or someone you know experiences a traumatic dental injury.

The management of a traumatic dental injury is often determined by the type and severity of the injury.  A 3D CBCT image should be acquired to determine an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.  Sometimes root canal treatment is necessary to maintain a traumatized tooth, as the trauma itself can damage the dental pulp.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us at Front Range Endodontics if you experience or someone you know has experienced a traumatic dental injury.  Early intervention by an endodontist following a traumatic dental injury may help you or someone you know retain their traumatized tooth.
